Easdale was once a huge attraction point for Scotland for slate manufacturing until the quarries were flooded creating whirlpools on the edge of the island. The coming and going of the tide creates different views from the island and with different levels brings new points of attraction. The Competition brief aims to being new focuses of attraction to the small Scottish Island to help with revenue, however they must promote sustainable practices which compliment the beautiful landscape.
Rise of the tide uses the concept of tidal waves and uses them in the new waiting area structure. The level change acts as a shift in the tide and allows visitors to see more of Easdale's beautiful landscape whilst respecting the current structures surrounding the current ferry office/visitor centre.
